Stein’s bushing seals are the perfect choice for high-pressure gas and liquid applications. Each bushing seal is custom designed to fit the application and is often combined with our other seals to create sealing systems that meet the most stringent operating requirements. The bushing seal is a sleeve that forms a small clearance about a shaft where leakage is limited by flow resistance between the clearance and the bushing. Bushings can be designed in either a fixed or floating sleeve configuration depending on the operating clearance requirements, shaft movement, vibration or misalignment. For machinery such as steam turbines, segmented bushings allow easy maintenance access to the shaft. Typical applications include aircraft engine main shaft seals, compressors, pumps, and high-speed processing equipment. Configurations include either a floating design or fixed design depending on the tolerances of the specific seal applications.
Machining
Stein’s precision machining expertise coupled with quality controls built into every step of the process means that our products not only meet, but also exceed the most stringent industry and military standards. The range of our capabilities allows us to produce small to very large components with tolerances anywhere from a fraction of an inch to a thousandth of an inch, and with surface finishes and flatness’ measured in millionths of an inch.
Repairs
Stein Seal, a privately owned company, can tailor a design and service contract to meet your needs. Stein Seal is an ISO 9001:2008 certified manufacturer of seals and sealing systems with a dedicated repair department and 80 CNC machines in our production area to enhance our repair delivery capability. Support is also provided through our engineering department and test lab. When required, one of Stein Seal’s 24 test rigs can be used to verify performance at actual operating conditions. Customers are invited to witness the testing of their seal and sealing system.
Testing
In Stein's test lab, we can accurately simulate the extreme limits of operating conditions, which allows us to accurately predict and verify performance under the most rigorous operating conditions. Each of our over 20 dynamic test rigs, including 2 inter-shaft rigs, is custom designed to meet Stein's high standards and each can be reconfigured quickly for multiple programs to provide fast, concurrent and cost-efficient testing for our customers.
